Intranet on the world’s ocean with Soya Group
Soya Group offers its employees a state-of-the-art intranet on all the world’s oceans, completely without internet.
The privately owned Soya Group in Stockholm owns Wallenius Marine, which is active in shipping and employs hundreds of seafarers. When the Group’s web team had to develop a new intranet for the entire group, they faced the complexity of reaching employees out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, without internet, in the same seamless way as 200 office employees.
Intranet without internet
The solution was an intranet where views, web archiving and own WebAPIs create a version of the Intranet for the ships that is sent out every night by satellite.
Ships operate worldwide, and can be without good internet connections for long periods. The challenge was to find a solution so that the ships receive updated intranet with relevant information, without sending unnecessary data that takes up space in the transmission.
The next step in Soya Group’s work will be to further adapt the views for the different target groups, and to develop the training and holiday accommodation booking sections.
