Building a new intranet? Think about this!
Why is a feasibility study good? When should you do what in your intranet project? And – perhaps most importantly – why is an intranet even important? We take a closer look at what to consider when it's time to build a new intranet.
Why build an intranet?
A good intranet can increase productivity, engagement and well-being in your workplace. When your employees know where to find the right information and tools, and when you can easily communicate with each other, the workday flows more smoothly and digital frustration is reduced. In addition, communication on the intranet often leads to employees feeling seen and heard. When employees are happy, the company is happy.
What should you consider?
It is important that you understand the needs of your employees and your company and build the intranet to meet them. This could include, for example:
- Structuring and personalizing news so your employees can quickly find the right information.
- Providing a chat so that everyone can communicate with each other, regardless of their geographical location.
- Having a mobile app so that all employees can take part in the communication - those sitting at their desks as well as those working in the field (so-called frontline workers).
Conducting a feasibility study is a good idea. It sets the basis for the whole project and answers important questions such as target group, purpose, needs and objectives. This facilitates further work – that you, and the project team, always know for whom and towards which goals you are working. It is also worth its weight in gold during the management phase.
Another good tip is to start working on the content of the intranet in parallel with design and development. Often the form of the content can affect the other parts and the sooner you see how, the better.
Build an intranet with ready-made templates
If you want to get started quickly, it can be a good idea to choose a solution based on pre-developed templates. Since the structure is already in place, you can add content directly and easily adjust the design to reflect your company's graphic profile.
At Sitevision, we call these ready-made templates and they are based on intranet best practices and built according to accessibility directives. It can be nice to start with ready-made templates - but of course you can then further develop the solution with unique features and solutions that match your company's needs. Either you do it in-house or together with one of Sitevision's certified partners.
Tip! Also remember to check out Sitevision Marketplace External link., which is our marketplace for smart modules and functions that you can easily download, test and buy for your intranet.
