Why should the internal communicator care about the value of a good employee experience?

The internal communicator is key to creating engagement and well-being in the workplace. Effective internal communication and a positive digital employee experience are needed for the organization to function well and stay together.

At the Sitevision Days 2023 we talked about the value of a digital employee experience. You can read the summary in two blogs about the value and how to create it. Now we continue on the same topic but focus on why different roles in the company should care about the value of a good digital employee experience.

For employees to feel involved and committed to the company's goals and success, it is important that they receive the right information at the right time. As an internal communicator, you play an important role. So why is the digital employee experience important to you? Here we offer four reasons – and a solution.

1. Effective communication

A good digital employee experience allows you to communicate smoothly and effectively within your organization. Spreading important information, news and internal messages to all employees is easier when they are on the same platform.

Plus, employees can communicate easily and quickly with each other – no matter where they are geographically or what devices they use.

2. Increase engagement and strengthen company culture

With an easily accessible communication tool, internal communicators can create a more interactive and engaging environment for employees.

This also becomes a channel for you to reinforce and spread your company culture. Why not share stories, values and successes? It will certainly strengthen the sense of community and belonging within the organization.

A good digital employee experience facilitates feedback and dialog – especially between employees and management. This is important for creating a culture where open communication and continuous improvement are encouraged.

4. Adapting to change

When you focus on the digital employee experience and actively work to improve it, it will spill over into internal communications. It will be easier for you to adapt your communication to new technological changes and changes in your employees' needs – because the platform is always up to date and ready for new challenges. This is crucial for keeping communication channels relevant and effective over time.

What about the solution?

Many organizations have long aimed to have a single internal communication channel – a channel where all employees can access all current and relevant information.

During the pandemic, many quickly implemented several new business systems and, combined with increasingly fragmented organizations, it has become difficult to achieve the goal of a single channel. But there are other parameters that can stand in the way of a communication channel as well. Maybe you recognize yourself?

  • Email is the default instead of the common intranet.
  • People working in the field have limited access to digital tools.
  • Office staff spend more time in business systems than on common platforms such as the intranet.

Nevertheless, I would encourage you to invest in a digital communication channel that reaches all your colleagues anywhere, anytime. A communication channel that provides good conditions to deliver engaging news and information that is adapted to the specific needs of the employee. It will also enable the internal communicator to create a seamless whole of both company-wide and departmental news.
